The Original Site of Leprosy Control in Ki-Gun¡¯s Government
Kim Soon-Taek

Abstract
The geopolitical situation of Cheju island historically made a governor have his own
right judgements and forerunning views at least in terms of the welfare of people in
any eras. During his two-year administration, Ki-Gun¡¯s achievement of leprosy control
was remarkable, mainly because he had excellent administrative ability, unique ideas,
people-oriented mind, and steady loyal thoughts.
Most of the studies on the leprosy control of Cheju island are not satisfied, especlally
in notidentifying the name of the sites and in neglecting the field study, Those studies
are limitednot to reflect the lessons in the authentic records of the sites.
Author institutes that the site of Morlemol village in Cheju island is Pyoung- Makee
Molue, the ruins of Kujilmak aid-hut(4. D.1445), which is able to be identified with a bit
of clue from the search for the names of places. It is a successful work that this study
could reproduce the situation of the leprosy control under King Sejong¡¯s government.
The historical situation of the integrating and unified control system for leprosy in
Kl-Gun¡¯s administration is so excellent that it can be applled to today¡¯s leprosy
treatment. The preservation of Pyoung- Makee Molue will be a basis to develop the
regional limitation of Cheju island into a kind of international cooperation system for
leprosy control in the future.
